An industry can only evolve as fast as its stakeholders. This is why INSEE Cement invests in the sustainable development and empowerment of Masons, one of the largest key stakeholder groups of our industry. Through a two-fold approach, INSEE Cement is helping masons elevate their living standards, increase knowledge and capacity, and explore better employment opportunities, progressing themselves while also contributing to the progress of the local construction industry.
By leveraging our island-wide market reach, we engaged with Head Masons and Masons across Sri Lanka and identified how to best address their most pressing challenges. This gave us the opportunity to collate data and create a growing database of active masons across Sri Lanka, laying a strong foundation to nurture lasting relationships through:
INSEE Cement found like-minded partners in national and non-profit organizations to nurture an educated and skilled workforce with industry-recognized credentials, who will be best positioned to advance the construction industry of Sri Lanka to be on par with global industry standards.
INSEE Cement collaborated with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), Vocational Training Authority (VTA) of Sri Lanka and USAID funded skill development initiative YouLead for skill mapping and strategic up-skilling of a total 2,500 masons from across the island. Masons are recommended by Divisional Secretariats, ensuring participation of deserving individuals.
Upon successful completion of this 3-day course, masons receive a level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ3) upon successful completion, a recognized and credible certification creating opportunities to further not only their careers, but also their professional education.
INSEE Cement partnered with the Vocational Training Authority (VTA) of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan arm of Germany’s Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to launch a special Mason Apprentice Program. The 120-day on-site training provides new and aspiring masons to learn on the job, specialize skillsets and prepare to enter the workforce after successful completion of the program.
INSEE Cement continues to strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship with the growing mason community across Sri Lanka, empowering them to elevate the local construction industry and contribute to the economic stability of Sri Lanka.
